Moving to middle school is an exciting milestone, but we know it can feel like a big leap for both students and parents. That’s why Caloosa Middle School features The 6th Grade Advantage. This advantage is a dedicated, supportive environment designed to give your 5th grader a smooth, confident start to their upcoming middle school journey.

Caloosa Middle School is proud to offer our specially designed Peer Counseling Course, known as the 6th Grade Student Success Initiative, that helps your child with their transition to middle school.  Peer Counseling, the 6th Grade Student SUCCESS Initiative, has been designed to welcome ALL 6th graders to Caloosa Middle School and to build skills to ensure SUCCESS for the future. Students in this course will hold themselves accountable for their learning. They will demonstrate improved academic behaviors, competencies, and self-efficacy (produce your own success) reinforced by peer support and mentoring. They will learn to believe in themselves and their own abilities and apply the learning strategies to rigorous coursework. The following programs will support the initiative: Pre-AVID skills (Advancement Via Individual Determination), habits for successful people, Chromebook usage and keyboarding, Comprehensive Health Education for 6th grade (state-mandated), and Social and Emotional Learning.

6th Grade Orientation: A special day dedicated entirely to our incoming 6th graders! Students will get to walk the campus, participate in team building activities, get comfortable with their daily class schedules, and meet new friends.

Safety and Support

Secure Schools: The combined use of OPENGATE, School Resource Officers, and Guardians is unique to the School District. When used in conjunction with comprehensive surveillance camera systems and other measures, our schools provide safe environments for 6th-grade students.
Smaller Student-to-Support Ratio: Because our team focuses exclusively on the 6th-grade cohort, your child receives faster, more personalized attention whenever they need help.
