Art Club |
| Caloosa Middle School Art Club is comprised of students grades sixth thru eighth who are seriously interested in learning about and making great art. They create backdrops for the WCMS news, banners for school functions, participate in local community art activities, and work on various paintings, drawing and ceramic projects. Art club students learn about arts around the world by creating origami, piņatas, Japanese fish prints and other intriguing artworks. It is an excellent opportunity for students to discover and appreciate the art world around them. Art Club meets every other Wednesday from 4:15 - 5:15 P.M., in the art room. | The U.S.A. Club |
| The USA Club (named by students for "United
States of America") was formed January 2002 to promote patriotism and do
community service. So far we have had speakers who served in the Viet
Nam War, Word War II., and the Korean Conflict. We raised hundreds of dollars for the
Math Teacher Scholarship in honor of Army Ranger Marc Anderson, killed in action
in March
2002 in Afghanistan. In addition, we organized our school's remembrance of the
first anniversary of September 11, and activities for the visiting
Russian baseball team members, as well as marching in the November 11 Cape
Coral Veteran's Day Parade. In April we created the human flag
of Caloosa to support US forces in Iraq. We meet once a month, normally on the
third Wednesday.
We have members from all three grades. For more information you may
contact Mrs. Camilla Green in Room 05-209.

| Paw Pals |
| The Paw Pals program is on in which students help students
with their academic work or social skills in the classroom. Students
are encouraged to apply using the Paw Pal application. The students
are required to obtain 3 teacher recommendations in order to complete their
application. These applications will be available in the front office. The Paw Pals program will not remove students from their academic classes. Students who are accepted to the program will receive training from members of the QDI team. They will be given specific responsibilities within the classroom. Each student will be responsible for completing a daily record of the support they provided. The students will also be asked to complete a short research paper on disabilities. This project will help students understand what the different types of disabilities are and the best ways to provide assistance. The students will be asked to stay after school at least one day per month to talk about issues, positives, confidentiality and their experiences. They will receive further training at each of the monthly meetings. The students are not replacing adult assistance, but should help provide more individual attention to those who need it. Students recommended to the program should be responsible and empathetic. They will need to understand that their job in the classroom is not to socialize with their peers; it is to assist those to which they have been assigned. Students are entirely responsible for getting the application and asking teachers for recommendations.
