Dress Code

The purpose of the dress code is to encourage students to focus on the learning process without the distractions of unsuitable dress and grooming. Students shall maintain a clean and orderly appearance at all times.

The responsibility for the personal appearance of the student rests with the parent/guardian and the student. Personal appearance shall not detract from the educational process. The following establishes the minimum acceptable standards for student dress to be interpreted and enforced by the principal or designee. The principal has the authority with his or her staff and community, as permitted by School Board policy to establish additional standards at individual schools. 

  1. Apparel shall be adequate in both length and coverage to be considered appropriate for school.
  2. Pants shall be worn fastened and at the waist with no undergarments showing.
  3. Holes in clothing that show skin above the knee are prohibited.   Leggings may only be worn under shorts, skirt, or shirts that are fingertip length.  
  4. Shirts or blouses shall be appropriately fastened in accord with the design of that shirt or blouse. The length shall extend beyond the tips of the fingers.
  5. Clothing that exposes undergarments, underwear or body parts in an indecent or vulgar manner is prohibited.
  6. Transparent or see-through tops, bare midriff, strapless, low-cut clothing, or tops and outfits that provide minimum coverage or are of a suggestive nature are prohibited; halters, backless dresses or tops, tube tops, spaghetti strap tank tops, muscle shirts, or any clothing which may be distracting are prohibited.
  7. Any articles of clothing or jewelry that could likely cause injury–such as chains, bracelets, rings, chokers with or without spikes, or studs–are prohibited. Wallet chains of any length are prohibited.
  8. Shoes shall be worn at all times. No slides or flip flops. Sandals must have a back strap. No wheelies (shoes with wheels).
  9. Apparel, emblems, insignias, badges, or symbols that promote the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or any other illegal activity are prohibited.
  10. Apparel or symbols which may be gang-related may not be displayed on a student’s person or in the student’s possession.
  11. Gang-related tattoos, or other tattoos that may cause a substantial disruption to the educational environment as determined by the principal, are prohibited.
  12. Adornments or piercings may not be worn except in the ears. Examples of prohibited adornments include, but are not limited to, hoops or rings attached to the nose, eyebrow, cheeks or lips.
  13. The wearing on campus of hats, caps, headgear (including hoodies) or sunglasses except in conjunction with designated school-approved uniforms or at authorized athletic practices or activities is prohibited. There may be certain exceptions for medical conditions and physical education classes held outside. The principal will determine these exceptions.
  14. Clothing with slogans or advertising which by its controversial or obscene nature disrupts the educational setting is prohibited.
  15. Hair coloring or style that may cause a substantial disruption to the educational environment, as determined by the principal, is prohibited.
  16. Long, oversized jerseys are prohibited.

For students who do not meet the above rules, there will be clean clothes in the PROACTIVE room in which the student will change, or he/she will wait in PROACTIVE room until the parent brings a change of clothing. The student will remain in PROACTIVE room if appropriate clothing is not available. Repeated dress code violations will result in disciplinary action.

Students can purchase their PE uniforms/PE lockers (if taking PE) and a school locker when school starts.  Lockers are $5.00 a locker.

Transportation

Walking/Biking

Students who live with two (2) miles of the school are not assigned a bus stop and may choose to walk or bike to school. Students may not arrive on campus before 9:15 am and must leave campus by 4:15 if they are not part of the before/after school program. Skateboards & hoverboards must be secured in the student’s locker. Students are not allowed to ride or skate anytime on the school campus. Bicycles must be walked while on school sidewalks. Students are responsible for locking their bike, skateboard, hoverboard in the designated bike area.

Car Riders

Parents may drop-off/pick-up students using the Bolado Parkway entrance.The safest way to drop students off in the morning is in the car line. Please stay in the right lane along the front of the building. Do not use the left lane to pass cars dropping off students. Students should not be dropped off or picked up in the parking areas.  

Bussing 

Students who do not live within two (2) miles of the school are assigned a bus and bus stop. Bus passess will not be granted without a written note and only in cases of an emergency. To search for a bus route information please visit mapnet.leeschools.net

Before and After School Program

Parent Information Guide

The goal of the CMS Before and After School Program is to provide an alternative environment for the children of working parents.

OBJECTIVES: To provide a leisure program which will include all phases of recreation programming. Development of computer skills, homework skills and social skills will be stressed.

HOURS OF OPERATION: The Before School Program will be held each day school is in session from 7:00am to 9:20am. The After School Program will be held each day school is in session from dismissal to 6:00pm, excluding early dismissal days. The After School Program will not run on early dismissal days.

ENROLLMENT: Enrollment is possible at the school office. You must complete an enrollment form and make your payment for the upcoming week. There is a non-refundable enrollment fee of $10.00 for this program. This must be paid before your child may attend.

PAYMENT: Payment for the program is due on a weekly basis. We are not able to extend credit to any parent. If payment is more than two weeks delinquent, we reserve the right to dismiss your child/children from the program. Please pay promptly.

INSUFFICENT FUNDS: Upon notification of a returned check presented as payment for the Before/After School Program, the Program Director will contact the family to request repayment of the returned check plus any applicable fees. The amount of the returned check plus any applicable fees must be paid in cash to Caloosa Middle School immediately or the student’s participation in the Before/After School Program will be suspended until payment is made in full.

Upon return of a second check, program fees must be paid in cash for the remainder of the school year.

FEES: Before School Program              $5.00 per day or $25.00 per week

            After School Program               $5.00 per day or $25.00 per week

 

Please put your child’s first and last name on the checks and make payable to: Caloosa Middle School.

Any family that is being subsidized by a grant program agrees that the daily fee will be charged for any attendance during a day.

PROGRAM RULES: The Before School Program will begin at 7:00am sharp! Children are not to be left unattended prior to this time. The After School Program will end at 6:00pm sharp! If you are unable to pick up your child by this time, please make arrangements with persons listed on your enrollment form. Unauthorized persons will not be permitted to remove a child from the facility.

If at 7:00pm your child has not been picked up, the following procedures may occur. The Cape Coral Police Department will be notified and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) will be contacted. Your child will then be removed for placement at an overnight facility and DCF will become directly involved.

BREAKFAST/SNACKS: Free breakfast will be available in the school cafeteria at 8:50 am. All students will attend breakfast and your child may choose to eat at this time. Students may not bring candy or soda for breakfast. Free snacks will be provided for the after school program.
