Regular attendance is necessary for a student to take full advantage of available educational opportunities.  All students shall be counted in attendance when they are present in assigned classes, participating in a school-sponsored function, on an educational field trip and in internal suspension.  Absences may be excused for the following reasons:  religious instruction, a religious holiday, sickness, injury, participation in an academic function, a prearrangement by the administration, or any other insurmountable condition.  Absences not included in the above shall be considered unexcused.

Students Responsibility

A student is expected:

*  To be in school every day and on time in every class unless excused.

*  To be responsible for obtaining and completing all assignments missed during an
   excused absence.

*  To bring appropriate materials to all classes and be prepared to work.

Parents Responsibility

A parent is expected:

*  To contact the school by phone on each day of the students absence.  Call 574-
   3232 to report an absence.

*  To send a note on the day the student returns to school specifying the date (s)
and the reason (s) for the absence.  Failure on the part of the parent to do
either shall result in the student receiving an unexcused absence.

Unexcused absences

All assigned work missed during unexcused absences shall receive a zero (0) mark.  Upon written request to the principal by the student or parent, the principal may allow work to be made up if there are special circumstances which justify the exception.

Arriving early and staying late

Students are not permitted on the school campus before 9:15 A.M. or after 4:15 P.M. without prior approval of the Principal.  Even with prior approval, students must be supervised by a classroom teacher during their stay.

Arriving late

Students who arrive at school after the 9:45 A.M. bell must report to the office and sign in.  Students must present a note from a parent explaining the tardiness.  Excused tardies will only be given for a doctor's or dentist appointment or emergency situations.  Three unexcused tardies will result in an absence and an after school detention.

Request to leave school early

Students who must leave school during the day must have parents call and bring a note from home stating the reason.  The note should be brought to the office before school to be approved and presented to the student's teacher at the time the student is to leave class.  Whatever the reason, whether it be an appointment or illness, a parent and the student must sign out in the office before leaving campus.

We encourage parents to schedule all appointments for their children in late afternoon or early morning so that students will not miss school.
